Kay Cee Jones was a talented artist, who as a child already left her mark on the screen and radio as Ruthie Reece. Together with her song writing husband Eddie Brandt and The Hollywood Hicks they soon became a popular act on the Californian music scene of the 1950s and early 60s.

After some pop recordings for a variety of labels she had her biggest success with “The Japanese Farewell Song” in 1955. With “Shortnin Bread Rock” written by her hubby, she recorded the first version of the popular Rock & Roll song (i.e. Collins Kids, Etta James, Paul Chaplain,…). Almost at the same time in 1958 she recorded the female version “Johnny, Johnny, Johnny” of the Eddie Cochran classic “Jeannie, Jeannie, Jeannie”. Further recordings in a variety of styles are included in this CD compilation for the first time.

We rounded out the album with some unreleased songs from the Spade Cooley TV show, which she sometimes was part of.
